Open Publishing Agreement
Overview
The open publishing agreement between the participating members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and Cambridge University Press (CUP) commenced on January 1, 2021 and ends on December 31, 2026.
This open publishing contract provides two services: multi-year reading rights to the full CUP journals package, including all take-over titles, and uncapped open access publishing of eligible and accepted research at no additional cost to authors.

Journal Access
All participating institutions will benefit from reduced annual cost increases in subscription years 2022 and 2023. Perpetual rights are provided to all volumes published during the agreement term; shallow back-file access is also guaranteed in line with the specific terms of each journal.
Open Publishing Opportunities
, there will be no charge for corresponding authors who publish open access in CUP’s gold (40 titles) and hybrid journals (330 titles). Corresponding authors are defined as “the person who handles the manuscript and correspondence during the publication process – from manuscript correction and proofreading, to handling the revisions and re-submission of revised manuscripts up to the acceptance of the manuscripts. The author has the authority to act on behalf of all co-authors in all matters pertaining to publication of the manuscript including supplementary material.” Corresponding authors must provide their institutional affiliation (ORCID IDs may also be supplied) and use their institutional email addresses when submitting articles.
Open publishing strives for a more equitable scholarly ecosystem and attempts to correct privilege bias within academia. BTAA research papers published under this agreement will be accessible by all readers irrespective of an individual or institutional ability to pay.
When an article is accepted by a journal, the corresponding author will submit an open publishing agreement and select a license that determines how readers can use the article. During the ensuing process, the article will be designated as eligible for publication under the read and publish agreement.
