The Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and Cambridge University Press (CUP) have signed a three-year 鈥楻ead and Publish鈥 agreement that provides multi-year reading rights to the full CUP journals package and uncapped open access publishing of eligible and accepted research at no additional cost to authors.

All participating institutions will benefit from reduced annual cost increases in subscription years 2022 and 2023. Perpetual rights are provided to all volumes published during the agreement term; shallow back-file access is also guaranteed in line with the specific terms of each journal.

Read & Publish agreements strive for a more equitable scholarly ecosystem and attempt to correct privilege bias within academia. BTAA research papers published under this agreement will be accessible by worldwide readers irrespective of an individual or institutional ability to pay.

Chris Bennett, Global Sales Director (Academic Publishing) at Cambridge University Press, commented, 鈥淲e continue to strike Read & Publish agreements with institutions around the globe, and North America is a major focus for the next phase of our plan to deliver full and sustainable open access across our research publishing. This agreement with the Big Ten Academic Alliance marks a significant step forward in our ambition to achieve this aim, and we are delighted to have forged a new partnership with such an influential group of research institutions.鈥

Maurice York, BTAA Director, Library Initiatives said, 鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to be partnering with Cambridge University Press as we move forward with developing a more equitable and sustainable ecosystem for our researchers and the wider community. Collective action by our organizations is one more step in achieving the goals of open science and open scholarship.鈥
