International Learning: Big Ten Students Study Abroad at Record Rates

A recently released report details how Big Ten universities are sending record numbers of students to learn abroad.


The universities of the Big Ten Academic Alliance over 90,000 international students to our campuses, but  a recently released report details how these universities are also sending record numbers of students to learn abroad.

The Big Ten Academic Alliance Learning Mobility Benchmark report details how over 34,000 students from Big Ten universities traveled internationally for study--almost 9% of the total number of students learning abroad, as reported by the 2015 IIE Open Doors report.

Students studied a variety of fields, with the two most popular areas of Business & Management and Engineering & Social Sciences making up 36% of the total.




Students  at Big Ten Academic Alliance member institutions can participate in study abroad programs sponsored by other Big Ten Academic Alliance institutions鈥攁nd co-sponsored by their home institution. Currently, the pool of study abroad offerings includes programs at more than 70 locations worldwide. Students are eligible to apply for study abroad programs which are co-sponsored by their home institution.
