In a , University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Director Tom Osborne touted the academic benefits of being a member of the Big Ten Conference.
UNL will become an official member of the Big Ten and the CIC on July 1.
When asked by Chicago Tribune sports reporter Teddy Greenstein what excites him about the move to the new conference, Osborne responded: "We like the stability of the Big Ten. We think it's a fairly collegial arrangement. We feel we fit well athletically and academically. There will definitely be some academic benefits to the move, the CIC (Committee on Institutional Cooperation) and those kinds of things. ..."
