The University of Illinois has become the first CIC institution and the twelveth university in the nation to implement eduroam, a secure wireless network which allows guest users to log in with their ID and password from their home institution....

The University of Illinois has become the first CIC institution and the twelveth university in the nation to implement eduroam, a secure wireless network which allows guest users to log in with their ID and password from their home institution. It began offering eduroam to students, faculty, and staff on January 26, 2011.

Implementation of eduroam was one of the key recommendations put forth by a project team of the , and Illinois offering this service represents a significant step forward in the effort to increase the ease of collaboration using technology.

The Daily Illini, the University of Illinois' student newspaper, : "University students, faculty, and staff who are traveling for conferences and collaborative work can configure their wireless devices locally and automatically use this service in various locations that are supported by eduroam."

The University of Chicago is actively testing the system as well.
